sera and VDA train veterinarians for the first time

sera has an excellent competence from which the trade benefits in may ways. Best examples: The seminars in the company’s own VDA/DGHT Expertise Center West. In addition to the well proven offerings for specialized retailers the specialists recently held the first seminar especially for veterinarians in cooperation with the Association of German Verband Deutscher Vereine für Aquarien- und Terrarienkunde (VDA).

sera is aware of their responsibility towards the trade. The manufacturer therefore obliges himself to inform veterinarians about the requirements of the specialized trade. After all, retailers benefit from educated, understanding veterinarians who are aware of the problems and tasks of the trade.

Especially generally practicing veterinarians who cooperate with the specialized pet trade, as well as official veterinarians who monitor pet stores, were invited to Heinsberg to attend to the topic “Maintenance, care and diseases of ornamental fish in the pet trade” on October 21, 2015. Aim: To make the veterinarians more familiar with care and diagnosis of aquarium and pond fish.

The seminar was therefore acknowledged as an official educational training by the Federal Veterinary Association (ATF acknowledgement according to § 10 of the ATF statutes: six hours).

After the official welcome by sera owner and CEO Josef Ravnak and Daniela Rickert, specialized veterinarian for animal protection and president of the AK 8 of the Tierärztlichen Vereinigung für Tierschutz (Veterinarian Association for Animal Protection), the attendees listened to interesting lectures by renowned referents. Among others, Dr. Dirk W. Kleingeld of the Niedersächsischen Landesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit (Lower Saxonian State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety) and president of the German section of the EAFP spoke about the legal situation for veterinarians counseling pet stores. Seminar leader and sera employee Dieter Untergasser held a lecture about the chemistry and biology of aquarium and pond water. Prof. Dr. Günter Schmahl (sera Research und Development) spoke about the most frequently occurring ornamental fish diseases and their treatment. The veterinarians were enthused by the competence of the speakers and the professionalism of the event.

Upon invitation by the sera company, interested participants could also attend a guided tour through the sera production facilities as well as a subsequent visit to the ornamental fish wholesaler Peter Merz on the next day. The latter is one of only three Fressnapf and VDA certified wholesalers in Germany.
