Rocks and bottom ground for “Africa” theme aquariums

The Hardscape Africa comprises two small and four big hole rocks in total, as well as the sera Gravel White gravel. It thus provides a suitable basis for the living environment of cichlids from lakes Malawi or Tanganyika in Africa. The hole rock provides shelter for fish fry, and is rather smooth and not sharp edged any more due to high-pressure cleaning, so there is no risk of injuries. Plants also find good opportunities to grow in the holes. The arrangement of the hardscape is of course only an example, there are no limits to creativity during the setup!

The Hardscape Africa is optimal for the sera Scaper Cube 80 liters (21 US gal.) (40x40x50 cm / 16x16x20 in.), but is also suited for the sera Scaper Cubes 48 liters (12.7 US gal.) (40x40x30 cm / 16x16x12 in.) and 64 liters (16.9 US gal.) (40x40x40 cm / 16x16x16 in.), which only differ in height.

The Hardscape Africa includes:

Note: Without plants – the image merely serves as a setup example! Nutrient soil is also not included with this hardscape, since cichlids – the typical inhabitants of an Africa aquarium – like to dig in the ground.

Recommendations

Animals

Small cichlids such as shell dweller cichlids are suited for the sera Scaper Cubes 64 l and 80 l in combination with the Hardscape “Africa”.

The different Cryptocoryne species can be arranged between the rocks and thus become “green highlights” in the hardscape otherwise kept rather neutral and bright.

Additional lighting

Depending on the planting, a second LED tube is recommended for the two sera Scaper Cubes 64 liters and 80 liters. In case of abundant planting, the sera LED X-Change Tube plantcolor sunrise, which supports plant growth, is particularly well suited. If cichlids with bluish color are being kept, the LED tube sera LED X-Change cool daylight is particularly useful as it enhances the bluish colors.
