Terrarium hobbyists can now treat their animals individually with the new over-the-counter sera med Professional treatments sera Tremacestol, Oxyspirol, Eimerol and Flagamol. The products are specially developed by the sera laboratory scientists under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Günter Schmahl, and have been tested in cooperation with the “Deutsches Reptilien-Zentrum” (German Reptile Center) in Springe (Germany) for their daily use suitability.
sera Tremacestol provides effective help in case of digenic flukes and tapeworms. The so-called trematodes and cestodes primarily infect snakes and other carnivorous reptiles. The well proven active agent praziquantel contained in the treatment is very effective in case of appetite loss, reduced vividness and stunted growth.
sera Oxyspirol is the right choice if the animals are infected by nematodes and lung mites. Symptoms for intestinal nematodes range from indigestion (dyspepsia) to loss of weight. Stertorous breathing as well as wheezing or breathing in a resting position with widely opened mouth are symptoms of a lung mite infection.
The animal can also become infected with Coccidia. These single-celled parasites often infest the bile ducts, kidney and the intestines. Symptoms are loss of appetite, diarrhoea, loss of weight – even death may occur. sera Eimerol should be used in case of such an infection. Its active substance diclazuril combats the disease in a directed manner and is tolerated very well by all reptiles, especially juveniles.
Flagamol helps in case of infestation with amoebae and flagellates. These are among the frequently appearing parasites in terrarium animals. While turtles can tolerate an infection without any problems and do not need to be treated, the disease certainly bears fatal danger for snakes and other carnivorous reptiles. Strong loss of appetite, loss of weight as well as an intestinal inflammation may occur. The contained active substance 5-Nitro-1,3-thiazol-2-ylazane is effective against amoebae and flagellates in a directed manner.
Particularly considering the special biology of reptiles, all treatments have been developed exclusively for these animals.
They are concentrated in a way that only a very small quantity needs to be given to the animal. Experienced hobbyists can apply them without any problems. Along with quarantine, treatment is also recommended for newly purchased animals as to avoid introducing of parasites into the existing setup.
