Marine water for aquariums is prepared with synthetic sea salt, as marine water inhabitants require sta- ble conditions without much variation. sera marin basic salt is very homogenous. Sea salt: The basis for life in a marine aquarium Tap water contains a large number of addi- tives and natural substances that make the water suitable for human consumption but may harm the inhabitants of a marine aquar- ium. A reverse osmosis (R/O) or ion exchange system is by all means recommended in areas with tap water rich in nitrates or phos- phates. This water purification will remove about 95% of all dissolved pollutants from the water.
