Discus and Altum angelfish together?

I have been keeping and breeding discus in a community tank for 4 years. Now I purchased a new tank sized (L x W x H) 150 x 50 x 65 cm (59.1 x 20 x 25.6 in.) and wish to keep 6 Discus along with some whiptail catfish, Amano shrimps and maybe a shoal of Rummy nose tetras. OK so far - but yesterday I discovered 3 juvenile bred Altum angelfish at my retailer's, and I would very much like top add them to the Discus. So my question is: Would that be OK?

Hello,

this is indeed possible with juvenile or half grown fish if you leave out the shrimps (which would otherwise end up as fish food sooner or later). But with the remaining stock it is likely that it will exceed the capacity of the tank (see below, please).

I expect serious problems with tank sizes below 2 meters, especially if several pairs are breeding at the same time. However, I think you can try if the tank is very abundantly decorated with optical barriers (wood, plants) and you have an unconditional possibility to move the Altum angelfish in case the fighting becomes too bad.

6 Discus are very close to the limit of the aquarium capacity - please consider keeping just 4 of them.
