The decomposition of fish waste and organic matter in the pond ecosystem is of great importance. Fish and Koi ponds are a particular focus in this context, as, in some cases, high fish stock density may lead to heavy water pollution.
In the so-called nitrogen cycle, the toxic substances ammonia and nitrite are metabolized into the harmless plant nutrient nitrate by purification bacteria. A sufficient settling area for purification bacteria is required for an efficient nitrogen cycle.
In filters with a high flow rate or moving filter media (moving bed filters), the requirements for preventing mechanical damage and abrasion are particularly high.

Pond Siporax Protect has been specifically developed to provide protection for the well-proven Pond Siporax Original. There are therefore no limits to the usability of this popular high performance filter medium. The robust protecting balls prevent abrasion and breakage of the internal Pond Siporax Original rings; the structured surface for the settling of (de)nitrifying filter bacteria is retained.
The unique shape and structure of the outer protecting ball improves the inflow and optimizes the flow rate so that water flows through the Siporax ring even more effectively.

The special open-pored and three-dimensional tunnel structure of Pond Siporax Original provides a much larger settling area for the same filter volume compared to other filter media. The interconnected pores made of recycled sintered glass ensure permanent water circulation within the filter medium. This kind of biological self-cleaning considerably improves the operation time of the filter until the next cleaning.
