Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher): Questions about behavior and species they can be kept together with

Can you put Kribensis into a densely planted tank without being afraid that they dig the plants out after a short while, as many other cichlids do? And can Kribensis be kept together with small toothcarps (Guppies or Mollies)? How large must a tank for a pair of Kribensis at least be?

Hello,

yes, this is possible. Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher) hardly ever dig, if at all.

Mollies and also Platies are generally possible. However, Mollies often require/prefer a salt addition and therefore are only suitable to a certain extent. I do not recommend Guppies as they are considerably smaller, and especially in case of long-finned variants, also slower.

The tank should be at least 80 cm long, but a 1 meter tank is considerably better suited. The Pelvicachromis become very territorial especially when guarding fry (and that is only a question of time with this very productive species) and may easily require an entire 80 cm tank for themselves (and they are able to enforce these requirements!).
