Live rock from the Mediterranean Sea: Which salinity?
I brought a rock overgrown/inhabited by various algae, small creatures and a little crab from my holiday at the Mediterranean Sea, near Genoa. I now want to set up a small saltwater aquarium only with aeration. I think I can do without heating since the lowest winter temperature (in my room) is 18°C. However, I am now looking for information about the salinity as to imitate the original water as closely as possible. Can you help me?
Hello,
Concerning "aeration/temperature":
Yes, I agree.
Concerning "salinity":
You can use the same salinities as they are usual in reef tanks, everything between 3.3 - 3.6% is OK (adaptation is of course done with the dripping water method as generally usual in saltwater!). The mentioned salinities represent densities ranging from 1.0235 - 1.0255 g/cm³ at 20°C.
