How does sera aquatan work against heavy metals?
I have a question about your water conditioner aquatan. It promises to make heavy metals in the water harmless. How does it work? Which chemical reactions take place? The heavy metals from my tap water are still in there, aren't they?

the basic process is called "chelation" (complexation with polydentate ligands), which encapsulates the heavy metal ions with a kind of "protective shell" and thus makes them harmless.
Heavy metals can be removed only by water changes with correspondingly unpolluted water. Luckily, the above mentioned protection works excellently!
The most relevant heavy metal in aquarium keeping is copper, which usually is not "supplied" by the water provider, but dissolves from indoor water pipes.
