Angelfish has damaged fins

I have two angelfish. One of them is doing great. The other one has frayed fins, but it does not look like typical fin rot. Treatments show no effect. Do you think it would help to shorten the fins a bit? Does it feel anything in the fins at all?

Hello,

no, I do not - to shorten the fins is advisable only in very few exceptional situations (Lymphocystis in the outer fin zones).

Feeling in the fins is unlikely as long as the fin base (the muscle) is not injured, but the fissures and wounds may possibly become infected secondarily.

One should always find out about the causes in such cases. According to the description they might be injuries from fighting. In that case the opponents possibly need to be separated as to avoid increasingly severe injuries and, finally, death of the inferior animal.
