What can I do if goldfish multiply too strongly?

I have a pond holding about 10,000 liters (2,200 US gal.), but my goldfish and especially the Belicas/Moderlieschen multiply at an enormous rate. What can I do against this flood of fish fry? In the pet store I was recommended predators such as perches. But I do not want all fry to be eaten.

Hello,

adding predators is basically alright, although I surmise that we are not alking "real" perches here - these are not suitable for common garden ponds - but probably sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus).

However, sunfish may also multiply rapidly under good conditions and then become a nuisance themselves ...

Apart from that, it may be possible to give juvenile fish to the specilized trade or sell them via classified ads. You must by no means put them into natural waters!

If the pond provides hideaways (e.g. zones with relatively dense planting), almost always some will make it!

Best regards
